More information The cycling tour gives a flavour of the far north and can be either guided or self guided using our dedicated information service at Dunnet Head. If you would like a guide, the fee is £50 per day. The tour is based from the most northerly point of the UK mainland, Dunnet Head, which is 12 miles from Thurso and 15 from Wick. The roads are peaceful, and there are several opportunities for off road cycling. The landscape is rolling agricultural land in the main, and there is something for everyone. Our self guided tours are in three categories: 10 – 20 miles, 21-35 miles, and over 35 miles. After settling into your accommodation, we can explain the various options. Examples are: Around Dunnet: Visit a traditional croft (opens June), a community forest, 3 miles of golden beach, the local Ranger Station, a ruined harbour, and the Dunnet Head lighthouse and WWII radar remains. Good lunch stop. Distance: 12 miles. John o Groats – along the National Cycle Route. You will pass through typical northern villages, and see old crofts. Return past the Castle of Mey, home of the late Queen Mother. Good lunch stop. Distance: 20 miles. Rumster forest – specially designed cycle route reached on quiet roads, passing through the quaint village of Watten. Packed lunch advised. Distance: 35 miles. |
